ISOLATION AND DAMPING OF VIBRATIONS

Now you can have better sound and picture quality

You should dampen vibrations in your CD-, DVD- and video-player to improve the sound and picture quality. Tuners, amplifiers etc. also will perform better and give a more "relaxed" sound and more defined images if vibrations are suppressed in the right way.

All equipment is suspensible for vibrations. We first have to distinguish two kinds of equipment: the mechanical "passive" ones and the "active" kind. The latter kind are mainly CD-players, SA-players and DVD-players. In "active" equipment something is moving mechanically. This might be the drive, the laser transport and the clamp or moving platter. Internal movements cause vibrations, but, what's worse all mechanical parts also interact with vibrations inserted from the outside. Those might be any kind of vibrations but also the sound (air movement) from the loudspeakers. Those vibrations will cause unwanted movements in the system, for instance the laser arm. Thereupon the servosystem will try to correct this so the focussing will remain within reasonable borders. Also the CD or DVD may start vibrating and force the error correction to correct for this effect. Both the error correction and the servosystem react after the "damage" is done (just as with feed back). So some phaseshifting may occur and this results in "jitter" again!
Also in other types of electronics vibrations can cause the detoriation of image- or sound-quality. For instance the grids in tubes may start vibrating, but also a moving printed circuit board and moving of the wiring cause unwanted effects. Capacities between PCB's or wires and the surrounding metal cabinet will vary so the vibrations will modulate phase (or time).

A wellknown source of vibrations is the mains transformer, that component vibrates with a frequency of 50 or 60 Hz.
Vibrations from the outside mostly cause the cover or the sides to transmit those to the inside, but also the foundation on which the equipment is placed may transfer vibrations.
The bottom plate, whereupon all internal elements are mounted should not only be damped, which can be done by adding "absorbing" mass, but it should also be isolated from its foundation. It's possible to place the equipment on a "heavy" marble plate for instance or any other absorbing construction.

We now have developed two kinds of "sandwich" constructions. The "VIB-ONE" is a sandwich which will be effective under any kind of equipment and the "VIB-TWO" which is specially designed for "High End" equipment. Both are delivered with special isolating Sorbopad feet and can easily be placed under any existing type of equipment.

Another (and cheaper) way to isolate your equipment is the use of special, gel-type, feet. In our development phase it came out that 4 feet are preferable above 3. If no heavy absorbing plate (for instance VIB-ONE or VIB-TWO) is used mostly the smaller "Sorbopad 1" feet will be sufficient.

Suppressing vibrations in the metal cover and sides can be achieved by attaching special anti-vibration sheets of 1,5 mm bitumen or (better) Sirex.

Sirex is a very special product developed for the suppression of vibration in space vehicles and jet airplanes. The Sirex has an absorbtion factor of 10 when compared with bitumen of the same thickness. In our designs we use it also for the suppression of vibrations in amplifiers, CD- and DVD-players and in the above VIB TWO.

2. The "VIB-TWO" damping plate (430x225x20 mm) special "High End"type, delivered complete with four IsoNode isolating feet.

3. Set of four special damping bitumen sheets (430x225x1,5 mm) for internal damping, price Euro 12.00

4. Set of four bitumen sheets (430x225x4 mm) for placement under the bottom between the bottomplate and the VIB-ONE or VIB-TWO.

5. set of four Sirex sheets (500 x 250 x 1,5 mm) for optimal damping (10 times better then bitumen).

6. Set of four Sorbopads for a maximum load of 2,5 kg each.
